Dating Games, Part 7

Previously, … I told you about Northern-Beaches beauties and dingbats with dictaphones and how dating can bring one to parts of Sydney one never saw (Manly!) or rarely visits (Chatswood! Newtown!) I also mentioned how difficult it can be to cut through the crap & deception, or at least economy with truth writ large, that seem to come with the territory. Plus, I mentioned that the asynchronous nature of the dating game invites all kinds of confusing expectations, … and potentially conflicted interpretations …

I also told you about my excursion to Brizzy, in — an apparently vain — search of the one. And I told you about the audition that I seemingly failed. Life can be tuff! But it keeps marching on.

I told you that I came out from deep in the teaching tunnel and was headed for a date with a self-anointed dreamgirl, in Newtown no less.

And I told you about the curious phenomenon of prospects connecting through likes, and even kind comments, but then not following up, and occasionally liking/commenting with huge delay. It’s a funny game, that dating game. Even without ghosting and/or zombie-ing. Never heard about those? Read up on them here.

[Some facts below may be fictitious, for the sake of the narrative! ;-)]

Executive summary:

Now at 21 Samsung Notes files, about to start number 22, and might explore other parts of NSW, and maybe Melbourne, too. Made a couple of interesting friends along the way, and have seen one of them now several times.

Here we are Hand in hand On the edge of the night The thought of this being wrong Never had crossed my mind I’ve been doused I’ve been drenched I’m an earthly delight I see a woman rolling ‘round In some scattered seed And a man tryna fly two kites Love taught me how to walk It taught me how to talk But it never taught me how to vote The dream is gone And I can hardly stay afloat You could ride in on a raven baby You could ride in on a dove Makes no difference when you come ‘round here There ain’t no politics in love You could ride in on an Eagle baby You could ride in on a Rook Makes no difference when you come ‘round here There ain’t no politics in love Who the hell put these locks On my garden gate? I took a bite but I swear I did not consecrate We got all that we need on this side anyway On our muscle better cushions Drinking Cherry Breeze We sleep naked And we sleep in late ’Cause the devil’s in the deets And the angel’s in the sheets While they’re shredding the remaining votes She said the dream is gone And I can hardly stay afloat You could ride in on a raven baby You could ride in on a dove Makes no difference when you come ‘round here There ain’t no politics in love You could ride in on an Eagle baby You could ride in on a Rook Makes no difference when you come ‘round here There ain’t no politics in love Do do do do Do do do do Do do doo Do do do do Do do do do Do do doo You could ride in on a raven baby You could ride in on a dove Makes no difference when you come ‘round here There ain’t no politics in love You could ride in on an Eagle baby You could ride in on a Rook Makes no difference when you come around here Makes no difference when you come around here Makes no difference when you come around here There ain’t no politics Politics in love.

Got some running commentary on the latest installment (DG6) from a (female) friend …

(She) I am quite interested in the lady with the questionnaire. She sounds serious and I would have liked to find out more about her. Maybe she didn’t reply because you are not a Christian. Some people take their faith seriously and prefer partners with the same faith so I understand.

(Me) Yes, apart from being a striking appearance, she was definitely serious and I fear her religiosity is probably why she did not respond. A pity …

Alas, it is what it is.

If there is a God, it was her or his design

(She)

it’s never too late to find religion

(Me)

You can’t teach an old horse new tricks!

My Newtown early-dinner date last Sunday was another pleasant one …

She (self-anointed dream-girl): Good morning, unless it starts snowing, I will be wearing black leggings and a grey jacket. Adios [Name]

Me: Thanks, [Name]. Good to know ;-) Greetings from my office … See ya soon … Best, Andreas (jeans jacket, jeans, white shirt, “handsome and always with smile”, according to a recent student evaluation)

Her pastizzi were too oil-y but my octopus salad was the best I had in a long time, and that rosé is a delight.

The conversation went reasonably well … Alas, the dream-girl she is not, I fear.

One thing that I am getting used to is that there is a steady trickle of prospects with an unsteady arrival rate. In this respect, the dating game is very much a numbers game …

One thing that is annoying is having to juggle different dates and to re-schedule.

Helloo, I have to postpone tomorrow ..

I’m exhausted … had a big week physically & emotionally

Sorry Andreas :(

I’ve only just now finished a job

Hmmmh. Did I mention having to re-schedule is … annoying?

Had a good chat that very arvo though with someone who advertized herself as “smart, sweet and sexy”. She got me at sexy. She also happens to live nearby and was looking for “someone who lives nearby ... life’s too short to spend it stuck in traffic ...” Ain’t that the truth. Early dinner today …

Stay tuned.
